In 2023, the current saga of the Guardians within the Marvel Cinematic Universe will conclude with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. James Gunn (writer/director) explained in a conversation in December 2022 that he went into the project with a sense of the low expectations associated with the third installment in a trilogy.
He added, “I can count on one hand the number of third episodes that are good in the trilogy.” “Basically there’s also the Before Sunriseseries. Lord of the Rings. Maybe Spider-Man. “But there aren’t too many thirds.” He also said that it took him more time to create the script for Vol. 3 than it did to write the two previous Guardians movies, and 2021’s The Suicide Squad. He claimed it was worth the effort to perfect the plot.

Gunn has previously talked about his ideas for the style of the third Guardians film and said that “the third film in the majority of trilogies just doesn’t work.” According to the filmmaker the film’s coming out is “so, so big and dark, it’s completely unlike what many people may expect it to be.” He admitted that trilogy swansongs are often disappointing, but added “not always.”

I’m really happy. We accomplished this,” he said. “I believe that Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Specialwas was a bit of a jolly fun the Guardians needed to have an aperitif prior to Volume 3 which is a major film. “I knew what I wanted to do from the very beginning.”
According to the official synopsis for Vol. The eponymous group will “look a little different now,” as Chris Pratt the Star-Lord’s Peter Quill, still deals with “the death of Gamora.” However, he will need to unite the group for a new mission that involves the Guardians guarding not only the entire universe, but also one of their own. According to the synopsis, if this mission is unsuccessful, it could lead to “the end of the Guardians as we know them.”
